Ignition Timing: Adjustments






1. Connect a timing light to engine and disconnect and plug the vacuum hose to the IIA sub-diaphragm as shown.
2. Start the engine and let it idle. Idle should be no more than 950 rpm, adjust as necessary.






3. Slowly turn the IIA until the timing mark indicates 3° BTDC.

NOTE: Check the ignition timing with the electric cooling fan off.

4. Tighten the lockdown bolts and ensure that timing is still within spec. Torque to 17 Nm (13 ft.lbs).
5. You can further check ignition timing as follows.






6. Reconnect the vacuum hose to the IIA.
7. Check that timing advances to 12° - 18° BTDC at 950 rpm.
