Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Connect timing light to engine.






2. Disconnect and plug the hoses from the distributor sub-diaphragm as shown.






3. Timing should be 5° BTDC at 950 rpm. Adjust as necessary.






4. To adjust, loosen the distributor hold down bolt and slowly turn the distributor until the timing mark indicates 5° BTDC.
5. When done, torque the distributor hold down bolt to 20 Nm (14 ft.lbs). Recheck timing and verify it is still at spec.






6. Reconnect the hose to the vacuum advancer sub-diaphragm as shown.






7. Timing should now swing between 10° BTDC and 16° BTDC at 900 rpm.
8. Disconnect and remove the timing light.
