SUBJECT:
RENOTIFICATION OF SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN - N02
(1987 CAMRY AUTOMATIC SHOULDER BELT)

You are requested, using the following information, to install a protective cover on the motorized shoulder belt ECU of the non-completed 1987 Camrys. Note:
At the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, please perform the necessary campaign inspection/repair on any vehicles acquired in your inventory prior to resale of the vehicle. In addition, you will be sent SSC notifications with your dealer's name and address for non-completed vehicles which, according to our record, you have in stock. If any vehicles in your inventory involved in this campaign have been released to a customer prior to receipt of this notification, please contact this known customer and perform the necessary repair.

Please use this to contact the vehicle owners and perform the necessary repair.

3. Repair Procedures

Refer to the Technical Instructions issued with the original SSC N02 notification.

4. Parts Ordering

In order to avoid excessive parts orders and maintain adequate Parts inventory, it is highly recommended that your initial parts order of the Protective cover does not exceed 10%of the number of the vehicles indicated on the enclosed special service campaign dealer/owner list(SSC N02), and order the ECU only on as needed basis.

AUTOMATIC SHOULDER BELT SAFETY RECALL - SSC N02

Dear Toyota Owner:

This notice is being sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Toyota initiated a safety recall on the 1987 model year Toyota Camrys front automatic shoulder belt systems in May, 1992. Our records indicate that you own a vehicle that has not yet had this condition corrected.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

^ If any liquid such as coffee or soda is spilled on the front center console area, the liquid can enter and damage the seat belt electronic control unit under the console box which will cause the front automatic shoulder belt system to malfunction.

WHAT WILL TOYOTA DO?

^ Any authorized Toyota dealer will install a protective cover for the electronic control unit to prevent any damage from spilled liquid at NO COST to you.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

^ Contact any authorized Toyota dealer and make an appointment to have the protective cover installed at your earlier convenience.

^ The installation time will take approximately thirty minutes. However, depending upon the dealer's work schedule, it may be necessary to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time.

^ Please present this notice to the dealer when you bring the vehicle in for the repair.

^ If you no longer own the vehicle, please indicate so on the enclosed postage paid form, providing us with the name and address of the new owner.

WHAT IF YOU HAVE OTHER QUESTIONS?

^ If you are in the continental United States, please contact any Toyota dealer or the Toyota Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-331-4331

^ If you believe that the dealer or Toyota has failed or is unable to remedy the defect within a reasonable time, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590, or call the toll free Auto Safety Hot Line at 800-424-9393 (Washington, D.C. residents may call 366-0123).

We have sent you this notice in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products and we sincerely regret any inconvenience this condition may have caused you.
