Fine Adjustment

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove RH front wheel and engine under cover.
3. Remove spark plugs, then the No. 2 timing belt cover with gasket.

4. Rotate crankshaft and align its groove with ``0'' mark on No. 1 timing belt cover, Fig. 100.

5. Ensure matchmarks on camshaft sprockets are aligned with marks on No. 3 timing belt cover, Fig. 101.
6. If more than 1 timing sprocket tooth is between matchmarks, realign matchmarks as follows:
a. Remove cylinder head covers with gaskets.
b. Loosen spring loaded idler pulley attaching bolt, then shift pulley as far left as possible and tighten in position.
c. Remove timing belt from camshaft timing sprockets, then rotate camshaft, using a suitable tool, and align matchmarks, Fig. 101.

d. With engine cold, install timing belt to EX and IN side and check for tension as shown, Fig. 104.
e. Loosen idler pulley attaching bolt until idler turns, then allow idler pulley to put tension against timing belt.
f. Rotate crankshaft two complete revolutions clockwise, then torque idler pulley attaching bolt to 32 ft. lbs. Recheck camshaft timing marks.

7. Rotate crankshaft clockwise until groove on camshaft flange aligns with matchmark on camshaft bearing cap, Fig. 103.
8. Check crankshaft pulley angle on No. 1 timing belt cover separately for the intake and exhaust sides. Pulley movement should be within .094 inch, Fig. 100. If pulley movement is not within tolerance, repeat step 6.
9. Retain camshaft, using a suitable tool, then remove sprocket attaching bolts.
10. Ensure camshaft grooves are aligned with bearing cap matchmarks, Fig. 103, then remove knock pin from pin hole in front of camshaft sprocket using a suitable magnet.
11. Set piston of No. 1 cylinder at TDC on compression stroke. Check each of the five pin holes in camshaft sprocket and select pin hole with proper alignment. Insert knock pin into selected hole. If there is no overlapped hole, slightly rotate crankshaft, then insert pin into hold closest to proper alignment. By moving knock pin one hole, crankshaft pulley angle can be adjusted approximately 2 degrees. Moving knock pin 2 holes can adjust crankshaft pulley angle by approximately 5 degrees.
12. Retain camshaft, using a suitable tool, then install sprocket attaching bolt and torque to 43 ft. lbs. Rotate crankshaft two complete revolutions from TDC to TDC, then recheck valve timing.
13. Install No. 2 timing belt cover with new gasket, then the spark plugs.

14. Apply seal packing to cylinder heads as shown, Fig. 105, then install cylinder head covers with new gaskets. Install center cover with new gasket.
15. Install RH engine under cover, then the RH front wheel.
16. Lower vehicle, then connect battery ground cable.
