Fuel - No-Start When Parked Downhill

Some 1985 and 1986 model Camry vehicles may be difficult to-start or may not start when parked facing downhill on a steep incline with less than a 1/4 tank of fuel. The following production changes have been made to correct this condition:

^ The fuel pump has been modified, using larger motor winding wires and a more efficient air bleed hole location.

^ The fuel pump filter has been redesigned to improve fuel pick-up.

^ The fuel pump rubber cushion, has been modified to allow the pump to sit lower in the fuel tank.

FIELD FIX INFORMATION

The following field fix parts can be used for service replacement on all 1985 and 1986 Camrys, and to correct the difficult/no-start downhill condition on vehicles produced prior to June 1986.

NOTE: Cranking time of approximately 5 seconds may be required to start a vehicle on a steep incline, even after installation of field fix parts.
