Idle Speed, Adjust

1. Connect suitable tachometer following manufacturer's instructions.
2. Ensure that air cleaner is properly installed, then run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
3. Turn off all electrical accessories, place transmission selector in neutral, then disconnect accelerator linkage from injection pump lever.
4. Adjust idle speed to specifications by loosening locknut and rotating idle speed stop bolt on pump, Fig. 4. Ensure that electric engine cooling fan, if equipped, is not running when performing adjustment.
5. Tighten locknut and ensure that idle speed is still within specifications.
6. Stop engine and reconnect accelerator linkage to lever.
7. Adjust accelerator linkage as needed to ensure that lever contacts stop bolt when accelerator pedal is released.
8. Start engine and ensure that idle speed is still within specifications.
