Engine: Service and Repair


1. Remove hood, engine under cover and battery from vehicle.
2. Disconnect accelerator and/or throttle cables from injection pump.
3. Disconnect radiator hoses, then remove radiator from vehicle.
4. Remove air cleaner assembly from engine.
5. Mark then disconnect all electrical connectors and vacuum hoses from engine.
6. Disconnect heater hose from heater pipe.
7. Disconnect and plug fuel hose from fuel line.
8. Remove power steering pump, if equipped and position aside. Do not disconnect power steering pump fluid lines.
9. Remove A/C compressor, if equipped and position aside.
10. Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
11. Remove clutch release cylinder, if equipped and position aside. Do not disconnect clutch release cylinder fluid lines.
12. Disconnect transaxle control cable.
13. Raise and support vehicle.
14. Disconnect front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
15. Disconnect front and rear engine mounts from crossmember.
16. Remove center engine crossmember.
17. Disconnect both driveshafts as follows:
a. Wrap both driveshaft boots with clean shop towels.
b. Remove attaching nuts from each driveshaft while depressing brake pedal and disconnect driveshafts.
18. Lower vehicle.
19. Install suitable engine lifting equipment onto engine.
20. Remove engine and transaxle assembly from vehicle.
21. Reverse procedure to install.
