W/4A-LC Engine


Front Wheel Drive Models

1. Remove hood, then the battery.
2. Drain engine coolant, engine oil and transaxle fluid.
3. Remove air cleaner hose, then the air cleaner.
4. Remove coolant reservoir, then the radiator with shroud.
5. Disconnect actuator cables, accelerator cable and on models with automatic transaxle, the throttle cable.
6. Disconnect the following connectors:
a. VCV and oxygen sensor.
b. On models with manual transaxle, disconnect back-up light switch.
c. On models with automatic transaxle, disconnect neutral start switch.
d. On all models, disconnect water temperature switch, sender gauge and distributor.
e. Starter connector and wire, then the engine and transaxle bond cables.
f. Oil pressure switch and A/C compressor.
g. EBCV, CMH and fuel cut solenoid.
7. Disconnect all necessary vacuum hoses, then the fuel hoses from pump. Plug fuel lines to prevent gasoline leakage and/or dirt entry.
8. Remove coolant hoses, then on models with power steering, disconnect pump.
9. On models with A/C, remove compressor and position aside. Do not disconnect pressure or return lines.
10. On all models, disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
11. On models with manual transaxle, remove clutch slave cylinder and position aside. Do not disconnect hydraulic lines.
12. On all models, remove clip and washers, then disconnect shift linkage.
13. Raise and support vehicle.
14. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold, then the engine front and rear mounting from center member.
15. Remove engine mount center member, then disconnect driveshafts from transaxle.
16. Lower vehicle.
17. Attach suitable engine lifting equipment to engine.
18. Remove RH and LH mount through bolts, then remove LH mount bracket from transaxle.
19. Remove engine and transaxle from vehicle.
20. Remove starter and flywheel/flexplate inspection cover.
21. On models equipped with auto. trans., rotate crankshaft as necessary to gain access to and remove six torque converter attaching bolts.
22. Separate engine from transaxle assembly.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
