Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Loosen distributor mounting bolt and turn distributor away from firewall.
3. Remove console.
4. Working from inside of vehicle, remove shift lever from bracket.
5. Raise and support vehicle, then drain fluid from transmission.
6. Remove power steering gear assembly and position aside, if equipped.
7. Disconnect front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
8. Place alignment marks on propeller shaft and differential flanges, then disconnect propeller shaft from differential.
9. Remove center support bearing and heat insulator.
10. Remove propeller shaft from vehicle, then insert tool No. 09325-12010 onto transmission output shaft to prevent fluid leakage.
11. Disconnect speedometer cable and back-up light switch electrical connector from transaxle.
12. Remove clutch release cylinder.
13. Remove starter motor attaching bolts, then the starter motor.
14. Using a suitable jack, raise transmission slightly, then remove rear engine mount.
15. Remove stiffener plate attaching bolts, then the stiffener plate.
16. Remove transmission to engine mounting bolts, then lower transmission from vehicle.
17. Reverse procedure to install.
