Thermo Time Switch: Testing and Inspection

5M-GE ENGINES

1. Disconnect electrical connector to switch and measure resistance between switch terminals Fig. 36.
2. Resistance should be 24 - 40 ohms below 86 degrees F and 40 - 60 ohms above 104 degrees F.
3. Measure resistance between STA (B+) terminal and ground. Resistance should be 20 - 80 ohms.
4. If resistance is not within specifications, switch is defective.

7M-GE/GTE ENGINES
1. Disconnect electrical connector to switch and measure resistance between switch terminals Fig. 39.
2. Resistance should be 25 - 50 ohms below 59 degrees F and 60 - 85 ohms above 86 degrees F.
3. Measure resistance between STA (B+) terminal and ground. Resistance should be 25 - 85 ohms.
4. If resistance is not within specifications, switch is defective.
