Excessive Engine Idle Speed (No Drop)
1. Check accelerator linkage for proper operation. If linkage is satisfactory, proceed to step 2. If linkage is not satisfactory, repair as required.
2. On models with 22R-E and 22R-TE engines, proceed as follows:
a. Check ignition timing. If timing is satisfactory, proceed to step b. If timing is not satisfactory, adjust as required.
b. Check air valve for proper operation. If air valve is satisfactory, proceed to step c. If air valve is not satisfactory, replace valve.
c. Check air conditioner and power steering idle-up circuit. If circuit is satisfactory, proceed to step d. If circuit is not satisfactory, check air conditioner air valve and vacuum solenoid valve for leakage. Repair or replace as required.
d. Access diagnosis codes. If abnormal codes are present, proceed to ``Diagnosis Code Interpretation.'' If normal code is present, proceed to step 6.
3. On models with 2S-E, 3S-FE, 3S-GE, 4A-GE, 4A-GEC, 4A-GEL , 4A-GELC and 4Y-EC engines, proceed as follows:
a. Check auxiliary air valve for proper operation. If air valve is satisfactory, proceed to step b. If air valve is not satisfactory, replace air valve and/or water hoses as required.
b. Check air conditioner idle-up circuit for proper operation. If circuit is satisfactory, proceed to step c. If circuit is not satisfactory, check air conditioner air valve and vacuum solenoid valve for leakage. Repair or replace as required.
c. Access diagnosis codes. If abnormal codes are present, proceed to ``Diagnosis Code Interpretation.'' If normal code is present, proceed to step 5.
4. On models with 5M-GE, 7M-GE and 7M-GTE engines, proceed as follows:
a. Access diagnosis codes. If abnormal codes are present, proceed to ``Diagnosis Code Interpretation.'' If normal code is present, proceed to step b.
b. Check Idle Speed Control (ISC) system for proper operation. If system is satisfactory, proceed to step 5. If system is not satisfactory, check the system wiring connectors, ISC valve and A/C switch for proper operation. Repair or replace as required.
5. On models with 2S-E, 3S-FE, 3S-GE, 4A-GE, 4A-GEC, 4A-GEL, 4A-GELC, 5M-GE, 7M-GE & 7M-GTE engines, check throttle position sensor for proper operation. If sensor is satisfactory, proceed to step 6. If sensor is not satisfactory, repair or replace as required.
6. On all models, ensure fuel pressure is as specified. If fuel pressure is satisfactory, proceed to step 7. If fuel pressure is not satisfactory, replace fuel pressure regulator.
7. Check cold start injector for proper operation. If injector is satisfactory, proceed to step 8. If injector is not satisfactory, check for injector leakage. Repair or replace as required.
8. Check fuel injectors for proper operation. If fuel injector is satisfactory, proceed to step 9. If fuel injector is not satisfactory, check for injector leakage and injection quality. Repair or replace as required.
9. Ensure EFI electronic circuit is satisfactory. If circuit is satisfactory, test is complete. If circuit is not satisfactory, check the following:
a. Fusible link, fuse or EFI main relay.
b. Air flow meter.
c. Water thermo sensor.
d. Injection signal circuit.
e. Air temperature sensor.
