Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

After Self Diagnosis System repairs have been made, it will be necessary to clear the trouble codes from the ECU memory. This can be accomplished by removing the Stop fuse (15A, 85 models) or the EFI fuse (15A, 86-88 models) for 30 seconds or more with the ignition switch Off. The ECU memory can also be cleared by disconnecting the battery ground cable, but clock memory, radio ETR memory, etc., will be cancelled (if equipped).
After trouble codes have been cleared, road test vehicle, then confirm that a normal code is now read on the ``Check Engine'' lamp.
