1. Start engine and run until normal operating temperature is obtained.
2. Disconnect throttle position sensor electrical connectors, then connect suitable jumper wire across terminals E1 and IDL in connector on all except 3S-GE engines. On 3S-GE engines, connect jumper wire across terminals E2 and IDL in connector, Figs. 60 through 64.
3. Gradually increase engine speed while observing tachometer. Engine speed should fluctuate at the following speeds:
a. On 1985---86 Pickup and 4Runner, between 1800 and 2200 RPM on automatic transmission models or between 1800 and 2130 on manual transmission models. On 1987 Pickup and 4Runner, between 1600 and 1900 RPM on 22R-E models or between 1600 and 1800 RPM on 22R-TE engines
b. On 1985 Celica, between 1600 and 1900 RPM on all models.
c. On 1985---86 4A-GE, 4A-GEC, 4A-GEL and 4A-GELC engines, between 1100 and 1900 RPM with A/C off or 1500 and 1900 RPM with A/C on. On 1987 4A-GE, 4A-GEC, 4A-GEL and 4A-GELC engines, between 1200 and 1600 RPM with A/C off or 1500 and 1900 RPM with A/C on.
d. On 5M-GE and all 7M-GE and 7M-GTE engines, between 1200 and 1800 RPM on all models.
e. On Celica and Camry models, between 1600 and 2000 RPM.
f. On Van models, between 1800 and 2200 RPM.
