Fig. 28 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) switch terminal identification:





1. Connect suitable tachometer, start engine and run until it reaches normal operating temperature.
2. Disconnect electrical connector from throttle position sensor and connect jumper wire between TL and IDL terminals in connector, Fig. 28.
3. Gradually increase engine speed from idle. Engine should hesitate between the following speeds:
a. 22R-E w/Manual Trans., 1800-2130 RPM.
b. 22R-E w/Auto. Trans., 1800-2200 RPM.
c. 2S-E w/Manual Trans., 1600-2000 RPM.
d. 2S-E w/Auto. Trans., 1600-1900 RPM.
e. 3Y-EC, 1800-2200 RPM.
f. 4Y-EC, 1800-2200 RPM.
g. 4K-E w/4-speed M/T, 1400-1000 RPM.
h. 4K-E w/5-speed M/T, 1400-850 RPM.
4. If engine does not hesitate within specified RPM range, or if engine stalls, check continuity of wiring between TPS and computer.
