Timing Belt Removal

Timing Components:






1. Remove engine under cover.

Removal Of Power Steering Belt And Pulley:





2. Remove Drive Belt and pulley. (If equipped with power steering)
a. Push on the drive belt to hold the pulley in place and remove the pulley set nut.
b. Loosen the drive belt adjusting bolt.
c. Remove the drive belt.
d. Remove the pulley and woodruff key.

Disconnecting Vane Pump:






3. Disconnect the mounting bolts and vane pump. (If equipped with power steering)
4. Remove the three clips, five bolts, and No. 2 timing belt cover with the gasket.
5. Remove the Alternator drive belt.
a. Loosen the alternator pivot, adjusting lock bolt, and adjusting bolt. Swing the alternator toward the engine.
b. Remove the belt.

Setting No. 1 Cylinder To TDC/Compression:






6. Set No. 1 cylinder to TDC/Compression by aligning the notch on the pulley with the mark on the engine.
7. Remove crankshaft pulley.

Removing Crankshaft Pulley Set Bolt:






a. Using SST 09213-14010 and 09330-0020 or equivalent, remove the set bolt for the crankshaft pulley.

Removing Crankshaft Pulley:






b. Using SST 09213-31021 or equivalent, remove the pulley.
8. Remove the No. 1 Timing Belt cover and belt guide.

Disconnecting Engine Mounting Center Member:






9. Disconnect the engine mounting center member and the four bolts.
10. Disconnect the right engine mounting from the right mounting bracket.
a. Raise the engine slightly with a jack and wooden block in between.

Disconnecting Right Engine Mounting From Right Mounting Bracket:






b. Disconnect the right engine mounting bracket from the right mounting bracket.
11. Lower the engine and remove the right mounting bracket.

Removing Timing Belt:





NOTE: If original timing belt is to be used, draw a direction arrow on timing belt (in direction of engine rotation) and place alignment marks on the sprockets and timing belt as shown in figure above.

12. Remove timing belt as follows.

Removing Tension Spring:






a. Using a suitable screwdriver, remove tension spring.
b. Loosen No. 1 idler pulley mount bolt.
c. Remove timing belt from engine.

Removing Camshaft Timing Pulley:




Removing Injector Pump Drive Pulley:




Removing No. 2 Idler Pulley:




Removing Oil Pump Drive Pulley:




Removing Crankshaft Timing Pulley:





13. Remove camshaft timing sprocket, injection pump drive pulley, No. 2 idler pulley and crankshaft timing sprocket from engine.
