Engine: Service and Repair


1. Remove hood, battery and drain cooling system.
2. Remove relay block bracket attaching screws, then the relay block bracket and relay block assembly.
3. Remove cruise control actuator, if equipped.
4. Disconnect accelerator cable from injection pump, if equipped.
5. Remove air cleaner assembly from engine.
6. Disconnect radiator hoses, then remove radiator from vehicle.
7. Mark then disconnect all electrical connectors and vacuum hoses from engine.
8. Disconnect engine wire harness from cylinder head, heater pipe and transaxle retaining clamps.
9. Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
10. Remove clutch release cylinder and bracket assembly and position aside. Do not disconnect clutch release cylinder fluid lines.
11. Disconnect transaxle control cables.
12. Remove windshield washer and radiator reservoir tanks.
13. Remove power steering pump and position aside. Do not disconnect power steering pump fluid lines.
14. Remove A/C idler pulley and bracket assembly, if equipped.
15. Remove A/C compressor and position aside. Do not disconnect refrigerant lines from compressor.
16. Raise and support vehicle.
17. Disconnect both front driveshafts as follows:
a. Wrap both driveshaft boots with clean shop towels.
b. Remove six attaching nuts from each driveshaft while depressing the brake pedal and disconnect drive shafts.
18. Disconnect exhaust pipe from turbocharger turbine elbow.
19. Remove rear engine mount bolts.
20. Lower vehicle, then remove front engine mount bolts.
21. Install suitable engine lifting equipment onto engine.
22. Remove engine and transaxle assembly from vehicle.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
