Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2. Disconnect upper radiator hose.
3. Remove air cleaner, then disconnect torque rod from carburetor, if necessary.
4. Remove console box, if necessary, then the shift lever from inside vehicle.
5. Raise and support vehicle.
6. Drain fluid from transmission.
7. On 1984 models, remove propeller shaft.
8. On except 1984 models, unfasten steering gear housing and position aside, leaving hydraulic lines attached, then remove intermediate propeller shaft.
9. On all models, disconnect exhaust pipe from tail pipe.
10. Disconnect speedometer cable and back-up lamp switch electrical connector from transmission.
11. Remove clutch release cylinder, then the starter motor.
12. Raise transmission slightly, then remove rear engine mount.
13. Remove exhaust pipe bracket and two stiffener plates, then the housing bolts.
14. Lower transmission from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
