SUBJECT:
Second Row Seat Won't Recline
INTRODUCTION
If you encounter a customer complaint that the second-row seat backrest won't recline when the release lever is pulled, there is the possibility that the release cable became disconnected from the holder.
REPAIR PROCEDURE/INFORMATION
Note:
Use extreme care not to scratch or damage interior trim pieces when handling.
1) Remove the backrest back cover by gently lifting up on either bottom comer to disengage the bottom and center tabs. Next slide the backrest back cover downward to disengage the top tabs (see Figure 1). Before cutting the tie bands, note the location for replacement. Cut the male end of the tie band as close to the head as possible; this way the ties can be reused (see Figure 2).
Release cable location (see Figure 3).
Release cable disconnected from cable holder (see Figure 4).
Opening width of cable holder should be 4-5 mm (see Figure 5).
Note:
7 passenger models use a second cable for the walk-in slide feature, the opening width is also 4.5 mm.
2) Carefully use a flat blade screwdriver to dose the opening width to 4-5 mm by inserting the blade between the lower edge of the bracket and tab of cable holder (see Figure 6).
3) Reinstall release cable into the cable holder using the original notch and make sure it fits securely (see Figures 7 and 8).
4) Check the function of the release lever and make sure the seat reclines properly.
5) Reinstall the tie bands. Install backrest back cover; ensure that the backboard tabs are properly aligned with the seat frame before pushing down. Failure to do so will result in damage to the tabs requiring backrest back cover replacement.
