A/T - Odometer Counts Up While Vehicle Isn't Moving

SOURCE: Subaru Tech Tips

TITLE: Inspection And Correction Methods Of Connector T4/B11 for 4EAT

APPLIES TO: 05 Forester
05 Impreza

SERVICE TIP:

It has been found that water may have entered the connector T4/B11of the transmission wiring harness on some 4EAT equipped vehicles produced in April 2004. This condition may result in the odometer recording mileage although the vehicle is standing still. This article describes a checking procedure for the condition and corrective repair measures.

Checking and Corrective Repair Measures

1) Connect the Subaru Select Monitor to the vehicle. While the engine is running at idle confirm if 4 to 5 km/hr from the front wheel speed sensor on transmission side is displayed on the screen.
2) Disconnect connector T4/B11 of 4AT and check to see if water is found in the area shown by dotted circle in the figures below.
3) Blow air to clear water and to dry the connector completely.

Note: Since the connector is waterproof, water should not enter into it in normal usage and no further countermeasure is required.

4) Reconnect the connector.
5) While the engine is running at idle, confirm if the front wheel speed of transmission side now reads 0 km/hr on the screen. If so, the condition has been corrected.

The technical support line has not had any of these yet. This is just some
heads-up information should you encounter one.
