Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Fig. 13 Trouble Code Identification:

To perform self diagnosis, drive vehicle at a speed greater than 20 mph for at least one minute. If system is malfunctioning, a warning lamp on the dash panel will come On. Approximately ten seconds after the light comes on, an L.E.D. located on the ABS control unit displays a trouble code. This trouble code is determined by the number of flashes the L.E.D. emits. To read codes, vehicle must remain running. Read L.E.D. codes as shown in Fig. 13
Refer to Fig. 13 for trouble code identification, DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS for code diagnosis and SCHEMATIC DIAGRAMS/ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC DIAGRAMS for ABS system wiring circuit.
Both warning light and L.E.D. remain on unless the ignition is turned off. Only one trouble code is displayed at a time. If multiple problems occur, only the first problem detected is displayed, that problem must be repaired first in order to check for further trouble codes. If the L.E.D. does not activate even though the warning lamp is on, the power supply may be inoperative.
