SERVICE PROCEDURE - Insufficient 4WD Transmission Case Oil Level

1) Verify that the vehicle has not been repaired (no "Campaign Identification Label") and the vehicle is included in the VIN ranges listed.

2) Open the hood. Remove the original (brown cap color) 4WD transmission case dipstick. (See Figure 1)

3) Using a clean replacement (yellow cap color) transmission case dipstick and following the instructions, check the transmission case oil level.

4) With the vehicle on a level surface, insert the dipstick, screwing it fully into place as illustrated.

5) Remove the dipstick and check the oil level.

6) Add transmission oil (as necessary) to the proper level.

7) Reinstall the original (brown cap color) 4WD transmission case dipstick unless an owner has provided to you a replacement (yellow cap color) 4WD transmission case dipstick which you should install into his vehicle in place of the original.

8) Apply "Campaign Identification Label" and close hood.

9) Advise the owner that in the near future they will receive a replacement (yellow cap color) 4WD transmission case dipstick and an insert for their owner's manual.

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

Each vehicle corrected in accordance with the instructions outlined in this bulletin will require a "Campaign Identification Label." Each label provides a space to include the five digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ballpoint pen.

Each "Campaign Identification Label" is to be affixed to the radiator or core support panel in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in for periodic servicing by the owner. Apply "Campaign Identification label" only on a clean dry surface.

A quantity of 25 blank labels are being provided to each dealer with this bulletin.
