Initial Inspection
Before performing the troubleshooting procedure, ensure electrical connectors, air and vacuum hoses are connected properly.
Before troubleshooting system, check for proper connection of hoses and connectors, and check parts and wiring for damage. Be sure ignition switch is off before replacing parts, and reconnect hoses and connectors after replacement.
When following troubleshooting chart tests, check connectors while connected unless otherwise specified. When performing a check with vacuum switch hose disconnected and engine running, plug hose. After completing repairs, check system again from beginning for additional problems caused while making repairs.
The following abbreviations are used in the troubleshooting charts:
ECS--Electric Control System
E/G--Engine
II-carb--Hitachi 2Bbl carburetor
H/A mode--High Altitude mode
IG--Ignition
S/L mode--Sea Level mode
Disconnect connectors of duty solenoid valves and vacuum switches when checking their resistance with circuit tester.
A stethoscope or piece of vinyl tubing is used to check for operational sound of duty solenoid valves.
When checking electrical connectors, insert tester probes from harness side of check connector.
