Cruise Control - Speed Sensor Connections

84subaru1 NUMBER 15-14-83

DATE 12-2-83
APPLICABILITY

1984 GL FWD AND CALIFORNIA GL 4WD

SUBJECT: CRUISE CONTROL SPEED SENSOR CONNECTIONS

FIGURE 1:

On all 1984 GL FWD models equipped with an Electronic Control Module (ECM), the in-dash speed sensor connector normally used for the cruise control hook up is connected to the Electronic Control Module (ECM). When installing SOA Cruise Control kits SOA 460 450 and SOA 460 550, an adapter wire is available to connect the cruise harness speed sensor connector to the red, four pin test connector, located behind the fuse box. (See figure 1).
The adapter wire is not necessary on DL, Turbo's or 49 State 4WD models (Non-ECM). The adapter, part number SOA 460 446 (with supplemental instructions) has been included in Cruise Control kits SOA 460450 and 460550 produced after October 27, 1983 and is available for kits not including the adapter.

It should be noted that on Automatic Transmission equipped FWD cars only the speed sensor is used as a triggering device for the EGR Valve. Because of production procedures, the speed sensor connection to the ECM is made on all GL FWD and California GL 4WD vehicles.
