Timing Belt: Testing and Inspection
Timing Belt Inspection
1. Check the timing belt teeth for breaks, cracks and wear. If any fault is found, replace the belt.
2. Check the condition of the backside of belt. If cracks are found, replace the belt.
IMPORTANT:
^ Be careful not to let oil, grease or coolant contact the belt. Remove quickly and thoroughly if this happens.
^ Do not bend the timing belt sharply.
^ In radial diameter h: 60 mm (2.36 inch) or more
3. Remove the front timing belt cover and timing belt cover (LH).
4. While cranking the engine at least four rotations, check the timing belt back surface for cracks or damage. Replace the faulty timing belt as needed.
5. Measure the timing belt width W. If it is less than 27 mm (1.06 in), check idlers, tensioner, water pump pulley and cam sprocket to determine idler alignment (squareness). Replace the worn timing belt.
6. Install the front timing belt cover and timing belt cover (LH).
