Basic System Precautions
TESTING
When carrying out fault diagnosis you MUST NOT use an instrument with its own power source like an ohmmeter, diode tester or buzzer directly on the airbag or control module. Instead, disconnect the airbag's electrical connection and connect it to a reference resistor (special tool). Fault diagnosis is described in greater detail under "Testing and Inspection".
AUTO BODY REPAIR
If work on the car body involves hammering and vibration caused by power tools, the control module connector must be unplugged.
WORK ON THE STEERING GEAR
During all work when the contact unit is in place and the steering column shaft is not connected to the steering gear, the steering wheel must be locked to avoid altering the basic setting of the contact unit.
CONTACT UNIT
If the contact unit's basic setting is altered, the spiral conductor in the contact unit may be damaged if the steering wheel is turned to full lock.
WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT
When an airbag is deployed, it is supported by the windshield. Cementing of the windshield is therefore somewhat different on cars equipped with an airbag.
