Exhaust Crossover Pipe: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the oxygen sensor cables and raise the car.

CAUTION: Do not twist the cables. The oxygen sensor is sensitive to blows and impacts and must be handled with care.

2. Remove the oxygen sensor.
3. Undo the joint between the front pipe and the exhaust pipe. Unhook the rubber hanger from the body.
4. Unbolt the front exhaust pipe from the turbocharger and lift down the pipe between the engine and the front engine compartment member.

INSTALLATION
1. Clean the joints.
2. Thread in the new front pipe section and bolt it to the turbocharger. Before fitting, the studs on the turbocharger should be lubricated with MOLYCOTE 1000, or equivalent. Tightening torque 25 Nm (18.5 ft. lbs.).
3. Place a block of wood (approximately 30 mm (1.2 inches) thick) between the front subframe and the front pipe. Bolt together the flange under the car, remove the block and hook up the rubber hanger.
4. Fit the oxygen sensor. Before fitting, lubricate the threads with MOLYCOTE 1000, or equivalent. Tightening torque 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).

CAUTION: The oxygen sensor is sensitive to blows and impacts and must be handled with care. It is important that the connection between the oxygen sensor and the nipple are gas-tight.

5. Lower the car.
6. Connect the oxygen sensor cables. Refer to Powertrain Management.
