Checking System and Governor Pressure

NOTE: Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.

FAULT SYMPTOM
- Delayed or no upshift.
- No drive in reverse gear.

ACTION
1. Connect measuring equipment 87 91 600, or equivalent, to gear case.
2. System pressure is measured on the upper connector.
- Use connector 87 91 584 (2b), or equivalent.
3. Start the engine and read pressure.
- The pressure gauge should be held vertical while taking measurements.
4. Depending on the design of transmission, governor pressure is measured at different places.
- Design A:
Governor pressure is measured at the lower connector.
Use connection 87 91 584 or 87 91 865, or equivalents.
- Design B:
Governor pressure is measured on a separate connector above the sound insulation.
Use connection 87 91 865, or equivalent.
5. When the car is stationary, there should be no governor pressure.
- If the pressure gauge shows a reading, there is probably a fault in the governor.
