Recall 288 Brake Light Switch Replacement

Saab Cars USA, Inc. has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety compliance may exist in certain 1993 9000 models.

On 1993 9000 Models there is a risk that the brake light switch can stick in the "ON" or "OFF" position. This can result in the brake lights remaining on constantly or in the brake lights not illuminating when the brakes are applied. All vehicles will be inspected. and if it is found to be necessary, will have the brake light switch replaced.

Vehicles Affected By This Recall:

Procedure A: 1993 9000 models up to and including
VIN Serial No. P1008000

Procedure B: 1993 9000 models from
VIN Serial No. P1008001-P1042385

Parts:

Brake light switch 95 O5 462

An initial parts order equal to 25 % of the vehicles appearing on your Status List will be released to you commencing August 29. Additional parts should be ordered using VOR ordering procedures.

Action:

1. Inspect the brake light switch installation.

2. If the switch is found to be properly installed (both locking tabs are properly engaged in the bracket), confirm that the brake lights function properly. If brake lights function properly. no further action is required.

3. If the switch is not properly installed, or if the light do not function properly. replace the switch and confirm proper function.




After the car has been modified, mark the campaign plate in position C4 using a numeral "8" (Saab Special Tool P/N 0297713).


Warranty Information:

A recall claim may be submitted after the repair is completed with the following information:

Failure Code: 1O288-61-0-05-01 if switch is replaced
Failure Code: 10288-61-0-05-08 if switch is not replaced.

Operation No.: 10288 for 0.4 hr. (includes complete repair and administrative time).

Use Recall Action Code (RAC) = 3 if switch is replaced.
Use Recall Action Code (RAC) = 1 if switch is not replaced.
