Subject:
Squeaking Noise Between Roof Seals and Doors

Application:
9000 Models, M9O-

On certain cars, customers may complain of a squeaking noise heard in the area between the roof seals and door frames. To alleviate this complaint, a new roof seal design has been developed as a service solution and was introduced in M93 production from VIN P1012687. This is a new, all rubber seal which replaces the "flocked" fiber version introduced during M90. For customer complaints on earlier cars see the details outlined.

Cars Affected:

9000 (all) 1990- (L1015557-P1012687, L2011206-M2012513)

Parts:

9000 (all) Seal 43 06 114 left side

9000 (all) Seal 43 06 106 right side

9000 CD 1992*- Seal 43 06 122 left side

9000 CD 1992*- Seal 43 06 130 right side

Note:
All spare parts inventory stock will supersede to the above part numbers.

*It is possible that some late model 1991 9000 CD's will need to use these seals rather than the first two indicated. Check the car to see if it has the C-pillar extension as indicated in Figure 1, position 1.

Action:

Replace seals as indicated by customer complaint. Use in pairs when updating an earlier design.

NOTE:
The new seals have a softer profile and require no additional lubrication. A door adjustment may be necessary to guard against wind leaks around the doors. A test drive should be performed in conjunction with the installation of these seals, figure 1.

Warranty Information:
For warranty claims, use Failure Coding 84467-42-3, 4, or 5-01-01. Time allowance is Labor Operation No. 84467 (0.2 hour) for one seal. Enter Operation No. 84467 twice when seals on both sides are replaced. Add 0.2 hour for a test drive.
