Subject: Sealing the Rear Hatch Hinges

Application: 1990- 9000 5-door Models


From the 1990 9000 5-door production start, a newly designed tailgate hinge was introduced. With modifications to both the hinge and the hinge anchoring point, a slight gap is created between the hinge and the roof. Under certain conditions, it is possible that a wind noise or water leak may result.


Parts Required:

Bostic 1590 (300 ml tube) P/N 30 16 052
Apply with caulking gun

Sealing Procedure:

Fill the gap as shown in Figure 1 with Bostic 1590. To aid in the application, use a piece of hose as an extension to the nozzle on the tube.


Note

Apply Bostic 1590 only to the area as shown. If the area adjacent to the hinge is sealed, condensation will form in the cavity.
