DTC 10/DTC OF - Front Sensor Short to Battery Positive
MALFUNCTION
DTC OFL: Front sensor 1 (left-hand), resistance to ground higher than 3 ohms.
DTC 10L: Front sensor 2 (right-hand), resistance to ground higher than 3 ohms.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
1. Unscrew the steering wheel center pad (airbag module) and unplug the connector at the rear. Plug reference resistor 84 71 153 into the connector.
2 Undo the front sensor retaining screws. Clean the contact surfaces between the sensor and the bracket, as well as the threads of the rivet nuts, using a wire brush or blunt thread tap. Do not use chemicals.
3. Lubricate the threads and cavities in the rivet nuts.
4. Lubricate the threads of new retaining screws and fit them in place.
NOTE: Use Saab lubricant, part No. (45) 30 07 309, Ford Motorcraft Silicone Dielectric Compound or any equivalent product having good conductivity and high viscosity.
6. Clear the code and wait at least 40 seconds with the ignition switched ON. Check whether the trouble code persists. If the trouble code persists - proceed to step 7.
7. Unplug connector 58.
8. Use an ohmmeter to check the resistance of the lead between connector 58 and the front sensor.
9. For front sensor 1 (left-hand), take a reading:
- across pin 4 and ground
10. For front sensor 2 (right-hand), take a reading:
- across pin 10 and ground
If the reading is 2.4 ohms or higher, the fault could be in the wiring between connectors 58 and 57 or in the wiring between connector 57 and the front sensor - proceed to step 3.
If the resistance is lower than 2.4 ohms - proceed to step 14.
11. Unplug connector 57.
12. Use an ohmmeter to check the resistance of the lead between connector 57 and the front sensor.
13. Take a reading across pin 2 and ground. If the resistance is 2.4 ohms or higher, the fault is in the front sensor. Change the front sensor.
If the resistance is lower than 2.4 ohms, the fault is in the wiring between connectors 57 and 58. Investigate the cause. Rectify the fault or change the wiring as necessary.
14. The fault could be in the wiring between connector 58 and the control module. Investigate the cause. Rectify the fault or change the control module as necessary. Before changing the control module, Programming and Relearning
