EGR Control Solenoid: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) controller regulates the amount of vacuum delivered to the EGR valve, regulating the valve and the exhaust gas recirculation flow to the intake manifold.

LOCATION
Mounted forward of the left-front wheel housing.

OPERATION
The EGR controller receives 12V current when the ignition switch is ON. The ECU controls the ground connection of the EGR controller, using varying frequencies (duty cycle) to control the amount of controller passage opening. This allows intake manifold vacuum to flow to the EGR valve in a controlled manner.
