Subject:
Engine to Gearbox Sealing Method

Application:
All 900 Models

To provide a better seat at the joint between the engine and gearbox, Permatex Ultra-blue is now being applied on all 900 models during assembly.

For dealership repairs, Permatex Ultra-blue must now be used (on the new gasket) whenever the engine and gearbox have been separated. Sealant should only only be applied to the groove in the gasket (Figure 1).

Note
Ensure that the surface is free of all traces of oil or grease before applying the sealant.

Do not apply sealant to the entire gasket/sealing surface. Gaskets are pre-treated with a sealing compound that is activated by heat and clamping pressure. Applying silicone sealer to the entire gasket will make the pre-treatment ineffective, and may result in subsequent leakage.

Parts Required:

Permatex Ultra-blue P/N 30 20 856
(300 ml tube,
caulking gun)
or
