Remedy 9

To avoid damaging ohmmeter when measuring resistance to battery positive terminal, do not ground instrument.
1. Remove steering wheel center pad (airbag module) and disconnect connector at rear of pad. Install reference resistor part No. 84 71 153 into connector.
2. Disconnect connector H2-37 and connect measuring cable harness part No. 84 71 146 into it. Use an ohmmeter to measure between each pin and battery positive terminal. Turn ignition On and turn steering wheel from full lock to full lock several times during each measurement.
3. If all resistance values are greater than 1000 ohms, the fault could be in the contact unit or the wiring between connector H2-37 and electronic unit.
4. If any of the resistance values is equal to or less than 1000 ohms, the fault is in the contact unit. Install new contact unit.
5. After installing new contact unit, plug in all connector. Erase fault code and wait for at least 35 seconds with ignition switched On. If fault code persists, fault could be in the wiring between connector H2-37 and electronic unit.
