Remedy 11

1. Remove steering wheel center pad (airbag module) and disconnect connector at rear of pad. Install reference resistor part No. 84 71 153 into connector.
2. Erase fault code and wait for at least 35 seconds wit ignition switched On. If fault code persists, proceed to step 4.
3. If fault code has been cleared, the fault could be in the steering wheel center pad. Check by disconnecting the reference resistor and connecting the connector into the steering wheel center pad again. Switch On the ignition and wait for at least 35 seconds. If fault code recurs, the fault is in the steering wheel center pad (airbag module). Install new airbag module.
4. Disconnect connector H2-37 and plug measuring cable harness 84 71 146 into connector (with reference resistor connected).
5. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between each of the pins and ground. Turn steering wheel from full lock to full lock several times during each measurement.
6. If any resistance values are equal to or less than 700 ohms, the fault is in the contact unit. Install new contact unit.
7. If all resistance values are greater than 700 ohms the fault could be in the wiring between connector H2-37 and electronic unit.
