The ignition cartridge, Fig. 1, which comprises an aluminum casting and shroud, slots through the camshaft cover and fits onto the cylinder head. The cartridge contains spark plugs, ignition coils and the following components.
The transformer inside the ignition cartridge provides a first step-up of the battery voltage from 12 volts to 400 volts. The stepped-up voltage from the transformer is stored in the capacitor until electric energy is applied to the respective ignition coil. The ignition coil steps up the voltage from 400 volts to 40000 volts.
