The Campaign
Saab Cars USA, Inc. has notified the State of California Air Resources Board (CARS) that a defect which relates to the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System exists in certain 1990, 1991 and 1992 900 models sold in California with turbocharged engines. Approximately 1,602 vehicles are affected. This recall is limited to vehicles registered for use in California.Under certain operating conditions, such as prolonged deceleration, or very light throttle cruise, exhaust gas temperature may drop below the sensor threshold for the OBD monitoring system. The LH Electronic Control Module (ECM) will then light the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL), falsely indicating that there is no exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) flow under operating conditions in which there ought to be.
A VIN status listing of cars is attached to this PSI if your dealership has received any of the vehicles affected by this Recall. Also included are a supply of recall completion stickers and "Proof of Correction" certificates. Both items are required by the State of California to be completed by your dealership (see Recall Modification Procedure for details.)
