ISSUE: 03/89-1127
SUBJECT: RUNNING CHANGE - UPGRADED FUSE FOR THE COOLING FAN
APPLICATION: 1989 9000 MODELS WITH TWO-STAGE COOLING FAN
Figure 1:
Beginning with vehicle identification numbers K1015370 and K2008563 the fuse rating for the low speed operation of the two-stage fan has been upgraded. The rating upgrade, from 20 AMP to 30 AMP, is to prevent fuse number 7, located in the engine compartment fuse box, from blowing when the fan starts in the low speed.
If fuse number 7 blows, the fan may not start from rest when high speed operation is called for because the initial current draw could blow fuse number 8. If both fuse 7 and fuse 8 are blown, there is no power supply to the cooling fan and it will not operate. The engine could overheat.
Always install a 30 AMP fuse at position 7 (Figure 1) in place of the 20 AMP fuse:
^ At Pre-Delivery Inspection.
^ When the car is in for service.
^ When diagnosing a fuse blowing complaint.
