SUBJECT: CORRECTING FALSE EDU 2 TRANSMISSION LEVER LOCATION INFORMATION

APPLICATION: 1989 9000 MODELS WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS

A fault in the transmission selector lever switch may cause the EDU 2 trip computer display to incorrectly indicate that all gears are engaged simultaneously. This can occur on some 9000 models with an automatic transmission when the lever is set to the "P" position.

The cars affected have vehicle identification numbers between K1019116
- K1021395 and K2011097 - K2012379.

Use the following procedure to determine if the transmission selector lever switch should be replaced.

Part Required:

Selector lever switch P/N 95 29 371

Inspection and Repair Procedure

1. Inspect cars within the vehicle identification number ranges listed above.

2. Place the transmission selector in the "P" position.

3. If all the shift lever location indicators on the EDU 2 display illuminate replace the selector lever switch.
