Inspection Procedure
1. In order to thoroughly inspect the transmission throttle (kick-down) cable and the brake lines, first use a hoist to lift the car.Figure 1.:
2. From underneath the car, inspect the condition of the throttle cable in the vicinity of the brake lines exiting the bottom of the ABS valve body (Figure 1). If the plastic sheathing of the cable is worn through revealing the metal coil, the cable must be replaced. If, however, the outer surface of the cable sheathing shows signs of wear, but the sheathing is not worn through, the cable does not need to be replaced.
3. Clean and then inspect the condition of the three brake lines below the ABS valve body. Carefully inspect any point where the cable contacts a brake line(s). Some wear in the enamel covering of the brake lines is permissible, but if the enamel on any brake line is worn through to the metal because of contact with the kick-down cable, the worn brake line must be replaced.
