With Integrated Fault-Diagnosis System (Flash Codes): 12222

Diagnostic procedure LH 2.4 and 2.4.1

For fault diagnosis, see also "Checking the idle air control valve". Testing and Inspection

1 With the ignition switch in the Drive position, select command code 553 on the ISAT scan tool or carry out component testing with the self- diagnostics function.

Check by listening for the sound of the idle air control valve working (1 Hz).

2 Check the adjustment of the throttle position switch by selecting command code 201 on the ISAT scan tool.

With the accelerator in the idle (not depressed) position, the ISAT scan tool display should show 8B101.

When the accelerator is depressed, the code should change to 8B001 (when the idling speed switch opens).

Alternatively, component testing can be carried out by means of the self-diagnostics function or the LH tester.

If operation of the switch is not OK, see "Checking and adjustment of the throttle position switch". Testing and Inspection

3 With the ignition switch in the Drive position, check that battery voltage is present across pin 2 of the IAC valve connector and a good ground.

If it is, go to point 4.

If it is not, check the lead between pin 2 of the AC valve and pin 87 of the main relay for continuity/shorting and the operation of the relay.

4 Connect one lead of test LED 86 11 857 to the positive battery terminal and the other lead to pin 1 of the idle air control valve connector. The LED should light up.

If it does not, go to point 6.

If it does, go to point 5.

5 With the ignition switch in the OFF position and the idle air control valve connector unplugged, measure the resistance of the valve's motor winding by taking a reading across pins 1 and 2. The resistance reading obtained should be 2 - 12 ohms.

If it is not, change the IAC valve.

6 Plug the Breakout Box into the car's wiring harness (LH control module not connected). Check the lead between pin 33 of the LH control module and pin 1 of the idle air control valve.

7 Try fitting a new LH control module.
