Service Information

SUBJECT: COMPLAINT OF GRINDING WHEN SHIFTING ISSUE: 06/87-969 INTO FIFTH GEAR

APPLICATION: M87 9000 WITH MANUAL GEARBOX
To correct a grinding complaint which can occur when upshifting to 5th gear after a 4th gear downshift, a new support plate, (P/N 87-25-723), has been introduced from Gearbox No. 349939.

Installation Details:

The support plate can be installed without removing the gearbox. The plate is located within the gearbox front cover and can be changed by removing the necessary hardware (wheel, inner liner, etc.) to gain access to the cover. Page 471-3 to 471-4 of the Service Manual Sec. 4 describe the plate removal.

Because of it's shape the new plate can only be fitted one way. When installing the plate, always install a new circlip (sharp face away from gear) and front cover gasket. Check the gearbox oil level after installation.
