Transducer Inspection Procedure
The electronic speed transducer fitted to the gearbox can be tested with the gearbox installed or not installed in the car.
To test in the car (this should be done before checking the gears):
1. Locate the 2-pole connector for the transducer under the cowl cover. Unplug the connector.
2. Attach a digital multimeter to the plug attached to the transducer. Set the meter to the AC volts range.
3. Drive the car and observe the meter. The voltage reading should increase as the speed increases. If not, proceed with checking the gears.
4. If the transducer and gears are correct and operating properly, the cause of the fault lies elsewhere in the wiring, speed sensor, or speedometer.
To test out of the car:
1. Remove the transducer from the gearbox, if fitted.
2. Connect a multimeter to the 2-pole connector. Set the meter to the AC volts range.
3. Spin the transducer input shaft by finger and watch the meter display. If the voltage changes, the transducer is functioning. If not, replace the transducer.
4. If the transducer and gears are correct and operating properly, the cause of the fault lies elsewhere in the wiring, speed sensor, or speedometer.
