Upper Control Arm Replace
Fig. 3 Typical front suspension:
1. If left hand control arm is to be replaced, remove engine and transmission assembly as outlined under ``Engine, Replace'' in ``Engine.''
2. Remove top shock absorber nut, raise and support vehicle, and remove wheel and shock absorber, Fig. 3.
3. Compress coil spring using tool No. 8995839 or equivalent.
4. Remove bolts securing upper ball joint to control arm and support steering knuckle.

5. Remove bolts securing control arm bearings, Fig. 4, then the control arm and spring.
6. Remove nuts securing bearings to control arm and remove bearings and rubber bushings.
7. Press new bushings into bearings using tool No. 7841331 or equivalent. Do not use oil or grease to ease installation. If lubrication is necessary, use a soap and water solution.

8. Reinstall bearing assemblies, torquing nuts to 54-66 ft.lbs. and noting proper angle between control arm and bearing, Fig. 5.
9. Reverse procedure to install control arm, road test vehicle, then check alignment.
