FIGURE 1 - SPECIAL ADJUSTING GAUGE:

Adjusting the Top Stack Stop Bracket

In order to correctly perform the following adjustment, a special gauge must be made from a metal or plastic ruler, or other strip stock (Figure 1). A used oil dipstick makes a good gauge.
1. Open the top slightly less than all the way to provide adequate access.

2. Loosen the two mounting bolts (1/2" heads) for the top stack locating bracket (lower stop).

FIGURE 2 - ADJUSTING THE TOP STACK.:

3. Position the gauge as shown (Figure 2) and adjust the position of the stop. Retighten the bolts.
4. Repeat this procedure for the other side.

FIGURE 3:

Modification of the seal and guide channel for the rear quarter windows.

1. Remove the bottom nut and washer for the seal (Figure 3).
2. Pull away the bottom of the seal to pull apart the fastener.

FIGURE 4 - REMOVING THE STUD.:

3. Using a pair of pliers, remove the stud from the rubber seal strip. (Figure 4)

FIGURE 5 - MAKING A SLIT IN THE STRIP.:

4. Insert a punch or awl through the hole left by the stud and make a small horizontal slit in the inner strip (Figure 5).

FIGURE 6 - THREADING THE CABLE TIE.:

5. From the outside, thread a cable tie through the stud hole and the new slit and then through the bottom hole for the fastener (Figure 6).

FIGURE 7 - TIGHTENING THE CABLE TIE.:

6. Spread sealant (3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive) on the back of the seal and press the seal back into position. Wipe off any surplus sealant. The sealant will help prevent water leaks. Tighten the cable tie. (Figure 7)
NOTE: Do not cut off the end of the tie. Instead, insert it behind one of the lips of the seal.
7. Repeat the procedure on the other side.

FIGURE 8 - PROTECTING THE CABLE GUIDES WITH DUCT TAPE.:

Protecting the Cable Guides

1. Push the top lining away from the Cpillar while sitting in the back seat.

2. Fasten a length of duct tape over the cable guides. The tape should be 50 x 70 mm (2 in. x 3 in.) in size. (Figure 8)
3. Repeat this procedure on the other side.

Replacing the Adjusting Screws to Adjust the Height of the Top Front Rail

NOTE: As from VIN J7002533 the following adjustment has already been performed at the factory.

1. With the top in the fully closed position, open the latch handles to release the tension on the top mechanism.

FIGURE 8:

2. Replace the screws, bushings and nuts with screw set P/N 69 50 588 (See Figure 8) This must be done while sitting in the back seat.

FIGURE 9 - ADJUSTING THE TOP.:

3. Adjust the top (Figure 9) so that the front rail is 20-30 mm (0.8-1.2 in.) above the windshield frame. Torque to 6-12 ft.lbs. (8-16 N-m).
