SUBJECT: INSTALLING REVERSE GEAR BRAKE ISSUE: 10/87-1008 MECHANISM TO CORRECT COMPLAINTS OF GRINDING WHEN ENGAGING REVERSE GEAR
APPLICATION: 1986 9000 MODELS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION GEARBOX NO. 315020 - 331129
A service kit is now available to correct complaints of grinding when engaging reverse. This is the same mechanism that was introduced into late M86 9000 models and carried over into M87.
KIT INCLUDES SOME OF THE ITEMS SHOWN AND AN END COVER.:
Reverse Brake Service Kit 93-21-423
This service kit is only compatible with Gearbox Nos. 315020 - 331129.
Complete installation instructions are included with each service kit. These instructions should be used in conjunction with the Service Manual (4:1) for the manual transmission. Information given for modification of the end cover should be disregarded and it is not necessary to fit washers to the reverse switch. All service kits produced have a modified cover.
SHIFT MECHANISM MUST BE MODIFIED WHEN INSTALLING KIT.:
Upon installation of the service kit, the shift selector mechanism in the center console must be modified according to S.I. 02/87-937. Inspect the reverse gears closely during kit installation to ensure that no damage to the gears has occurred. Replace as necessary.
Warranty Information: For Warranty Repairs, use Failure Coding 47159-03-0- 01-01. Labor Allowance is Operation No. 47159 (7.7 hours) plus 0.4 hours in Straight Time for modifying the shift selector.
Installation of the brake kit must have prior District Service Manager authorization. Enter the PAC in the labor operation area.
