Identification of Gears
Early Type, -M88
Figure 1:
Drive gear, P/N 87 20 633
The metal drive is located on the right-hand side of the differential housing. It fits loosely on the housing and is held in place by a tapered roller bearing. A roll pin is pressed into the inward-facing side of the gear. The other end of the pin fits into a notch in the housing which limits the amount of rotational movement of the gear on the housing (Figure 1).
Driven gear, P/N 87 23 892
This plastic driven gear has 13 teeth and an outer diameter of about 19 mm.
Late Type, M8gDrive gear, P/N 87 27 232
This metal drive gear is also on the right-hand side of the differential but it is press-fit onto the housing. Because of the press-fit, the gear is no longer able to rotate on the housing so the roll pin is not used. This gear is smaller in diameter than the earlier drive gear.
Driven gear, P/N 87 27 240
This plastic driven gear has 15 teeth and an outer diameter of about 22 mm.
