Diagnosis By Fault Codes

Fault Code Chart:

This system incorporates a self-diagnostic function. When this is used for checking system operation, an OE test unit with LEDs should be plugged into the data link connector.

NOTE: The flashing rate of the green LED corresponds to the flashing rate seen on the Check Engine warning lamp (MIL). Flashing of the OE test units red LED is for knock indication can only be seen on OE test unit.

1. Plug in test unit with LEDs into the data link connector.

2. Switch ON the ignition and crank the engine. Check that the fault indicator (green LED on OE test unit) lights up for about 2 seconds while starter motor is in operation.

3. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. At some time during the warm up period, increase engine speed briefly to more that 2300 RPM.

4. Run the engine at idling speed and observe the LED. Count the number of flashes per sequence if the LED is flashing. Look for this number in the fault code chart.
