Enrichment on PRE-IGNition (Premature Ignition, Pinking)

Enrichment on PRE-IGNition (premature ignition, pinking)

Description

Combustion in the engine is monitored continuously by the DI/APC control module. When the control module records pre-ignition in any of the cylinders, a signal is sent to the LH system's control module. This signal orders immediate fuel enrichment.

The signal from the DI/APC control module is applied to pin 20 (LH 2.2) and pin 28 (LH 2.4, 2.4.1 and 2.4.2).

Note: PRE-IGNition does not normally happen with- out being preceded by pinking. This means that adjustment of the timing and boost pressure takes place if pinking occurs. If PRE-IGNition occurs as well, enrichment of the fuel-air mixture will take place.

In certain cases this function has given rise to malfunctioning and may therefore be disconnected. On later model year cars this function is not provided.
