ISSUE: 03/89-1136, 1137
SUBJECT: CYLINDER HEAD RESURFACING

APPLICATION: B201 AND B202 ENGINES

Figure 1:

After a cylinder head has been resurfaced, it is important that the edges of the combustion chambers be smoothed to remove any burrs or sharp edges left from the resurfacing process.

CAUTION

FAILURE TO REMOVE ALL SHARP EDGES AND BURRS MAY LEAD TO EXCESSIVE DETONATION AND POSSIBLE ENGINE DAMAGE.

Use an emery cloth to leave smoothly rounded edges all around the combustion chamber (Figure 1). When replacing a cylinder head gasket, carefully inspect the cylinder head to ensure that the combustion chamber edges are smooth and that no burrs are present from any resurfacing, or from the original manufacturing process.
